Information About Visas

Malaysia Automated Clearence System (MACS)

1. WHAT IS MACS?

Inline to support the economic development of Iskandar Region, MACS is developed to cater fast-track immigration clearance for non Malaysia investors, business persons and professionals.

The scope of MACS facility is expanded to frequent traveler of Singapore Citizens and also for those who have been issued with the relevant long term immigration pass and frequently travel within Malaysia and Singapore for the purpose of working, studying and staying in Malaysia.

Hence, MACS holders can benefit faster immigration processing via access to dedicated entry and exit MACS lanes at:

  • Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, Johor Bahru
  • Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar, Tanjung Kupang, Johor

MACS holders will also be excluded from the requirement of completing the immigration arrival card (IMM.26).Consequently, entry and exit to/from Malaysia records shall be made online and the usage of passport pages for stamping will be minimized.

Spouses and dependents (children) of MACS holders are also entitled to apply this facility with the condition that they have been issued with the relevant immigration pass.

Note: MACS is simply a form of fast-track facilitation and does not act as an immigration pass or visa. Visitors are still required to obtain visa (if applicable) and will be issued with relevant immigration pass.

2. PERIOD OF STAY

MACS holders are entitled to enter and remain in Malaysia according to the duration as stated in the relevant immigration pass issued.

3. MACS STICKER

There are two (2) types of MACS sticker:-

Category A: Issued to Short Term Immigration Pass/ Social Visit Pass holders

Issued to non-Malaysian daily trippers (involved with the development of Iskandar Region projects) and also for Singapore Citizens who are frequently traveling to Malaysia on social visit purposes. i.e: attending meetings, exploring business opportunity or visiting sites.

Category B: Issued to Long Term Immigration Pass Holders

Issued to non-Malaysian daily trippers (involved with the development of Iskandar Region projects) that have been endorsed with long term immigration pass (i.e: Employment Pass, Professional Visit Pass, Student Pass, Temporary Working Visit Pass) in order to work or provide related services that shall benefit and contribute to the development of Iskandar Region.

This sticker is also issued to Singapore Citizens that have been endorsed with long term immigration pass (i.e: Employment Pass, Temporary Working Visit Pass, Student Pass, Professional Visit Pass) in order to frequently travel for the purpose of working, studying and staying in Malaysia.

4. VALIDITY AND FEE OF MACS STICKER

MACS sticker shall be valid for one (1) year from the date of issuance. A RM30.00 fee is charged for every issuance. Payment must be made in cash form.

5. RENEWAL OF MACS STICKER

MACS sticker must be activated upon its expiry date. For cases of lost and stolen passports, a new / ‘fresh’ sticker will be issued in the new passport.

6. ELIGIBILITY

MACS applicants who are involved with the development of Iskandar Region Projects are required to meet the terms and conditions as follows:

  • Non-Malaysian citizens who are sponsored by a Malaysian company (or company based in Malaysia) and directly involved the in the development and projects/ activities related to Iskandar Region;
  • In possess of an international passport with minimum validity of two (2) years;
  • Non-listed in the Immigration Suspect List;
  • Has been issued with a relevant long term immigration pass (if applicable - relevant to category B applicants); and
  • Entry Visa (if applicable - relevant to visa required citizens)

Singapore Citizens daily trippers who wish to apply MACS are required to meet the terms and conditions as follows:

  • Must be a Singapore Citizen in possession of an international passport with minimum validity of two (2) years;
  • Non-listed in the Immigration Suspect List;
  • Has been issued with a relevant long term immigration pass (if – applicable – Category B applicants).
  • Number of visit per month at least 4 times and more

7. HOW TO APPLY?

Application forms are available online at Immigration Malaysia’s web site at www.imi.gov.my and at Iskandar Malaysia’ s web site at www.iskandarmalaysia.com.my (only for applicants involved in Iskandar Malaysia). Hardcopy forms can also be obtained at the MACS One Stop Center (OSC).

Completed application forms must be printed, verified by the Malaysian sponsor and endorsed by the IRDA representative (only applicable for MACS – Iskandar Malaysia applicant).

Submission of application forms (and relevant supporting documents) shall be made to the respective MACS One Stop Center. MACS – Iskandar Malaysia applicants are required to submit the completed application forms at IRDA’s office.

Means to provide photograph (with light colored background) during application:

  • Upload photograph during application process via online; or
  • Furnish hardcopy photograph at registration counter.

Applicants are required to be self-present during application process. Failure of attendance as well as furnishing a completed application form (including relevant supporting documents) may result delayed of process.

8. CHECKLIST

The checklist for MACS applications are as follows:

9. CLIENT CHARTER

Completed MACS application shall be processed on the same working day.

Employment Approval Procedure

1. Application can be made at Visa, Pass and Permit Division, Immigration Department of Malaysia (Headquarters) or at any State Immigration Office.

2. Application can be submitted together with the application for a Social Visit Pass or after the Social Visit Pass has been issued.

Terms and condition Employment of Citizen's Spouse

  1. The marriage is legally under the respective Malaysia Laws.
  2. The applicant is eligible to be given a long term Social Visit Pass or has already been issued such a pass as a foreign husband and wife to Malaysia.
  3. The respective employment or business or professional occupation does not contravene any law or regulation in Malaysia.
  4. The permission to engage in paid employment or business or professional occupation must be endorsed on the applicant's passport by the Director General Of Immigration, Malaysia or any authorized Immigration officer.
  5. Working permit for Spouse of Malaysian Citizen

  1. Foreign husband/wife is permitted to work in Malaysia without having to change their Social Visit Pass to Employment Pass with condition of acquiring working approval from the Immigration Department.
  2. The approval is in the form of endorsement and be given on the passport/travel document.
  3. The endorsement is given without fee (free).
  4. The endorsement entitled the holder to work in any legal profession.
  5. The application for the endorsement can be made at the Visa, Pass and Permit Division Immigration Head Quarters or at the nearest states Immigration offices.
  6. The permit can be applied at any time after or during the submission of the Social visit pass.
  7. Application letter together with a copy of letter of appointment/company registration evidence, marriage certificate and valid long term social visit pass are required for the approval consideration.

Employment Pass

Issuance of pass to Expatriate with approval from the Expatriate Committee and others relevant supervisory agencies. Is a process for the issuance of passes to Expatriate with approval from the Expatriate Committee and others relevant supervisory agencies.

Required Documents:

One (1) set of application form consisting of the following supporting documents:

  1. Authority Letter from the company or letter of appointment as a company's representative.
  2. Duly completed DP11 Form with Expatriate passport size photograph.
  3. Offer and Acceptance Letter or Employment Contract (RM10.00 Stamped) or Personal Bond for application Visit Pass (Temporary Employment) (RM10.00 Stamped).
  4. Complete copies of Expatriate Official passport (Two copies required for PRC citizen).

Other Documents (If relevant)

  1. Letter of approval from MIDA/BNM/SC/JPM/LHDN where relevant only (approval from JKPD and MDEC not required)
  2. Printout on companies profile from Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) or form 9, form 24 and form 49 for approval by MIDA and JKPD (if JKPD insist on raising the paid up capital).
  3. Include Expatriate's resume, copies of Diploma/Degree for non key post under the approval of MIDA (for post approved by MIDA on Personal to Holder supporting documents as above are not required).

Confirmation for issuance of passes to Expatriate

Employment passes are passes issued to Expatriate to stay and work legally in the country. However there are categories of Expatriate that are allowed to work in this country on Visit Pass (Temporary Employment).

Fee charges for issuance of Passes

Employment Pass

With effect 1st January 2009, approval for post involving a salary of RM5,000 and above, approval is given for a period of at least two years.

  1. Key post (approval by MIDA) - fees charged RM300.00 per year or part thereof.
  2. Management post/Senior/Intermediate/Professional/Technical - fees charged RM200.00 per year or part thereof.
  3. Employment Pass - no levy charged.

Other Charges

  1. Processing fees for Employment Pass, Visit Pass(Temporary Employment) - fees charged RM50.00 per post/application.
  2. Processing fees for "Journey Perform Visa" - fees charged RM500.00 per post/application.

Immigration requirements

Citizen who require visa has to acquire Visa with Reference prior to entry into Malaysia for the Purpose of employment.

Visa with Reference can be applied at any Malaysian Foreign Missions offices after approval for employment has been granted by Immigration Offices in Malaysia.

Please be informed that passes or I - Card issued in Peninsular Malaysia to expatriate and their dependants is only valid for Peninsular Malaysia exclusive of Sabah and Sarawak.

Expatriate and their dependant(s) are required to bring along their travel document(s) when travelling outside Peninsular Malaysia for the purpose of immigration clearance.

Long Term Social Visit Pass

  • Long term social visit pass may be issued to a foreigner for temporary stay in Malaysia for a period of not less than six months. Extension can be given based on the eligibility and fulfilling the required conditions.
  • Foreign husbands/wives to Malaysians can be given Visit Pass (social) for a period of 5 years on condition they comply with all the requirements.
  • They are also allowed to be engaged in any form of paid employment or in any business or professional occupation without converting their social Visit Pass status to Employment Pass or Visit Pass (Temporary employment).

Terms and condition Employment of Citizen's Spouse

  1. The marriage is legally under the respective Malaysia Laws.
  2. The applicant is eligible to be given a long term Social Visit Pass or has already been issued such a pass as a foreign husband and wife to Malaysia.
  3. The respective employment or business or professional occupation does not contravene any law or regulation in Malaysia.
  4. The permission to engage in paid employment or business or professional occupation must be endorsed on the applicant's passport by the Director General Of Immigration, Malaysia or any authorized Immigration officer.
  5. The applicant has fulfilled all requirements as specified by the Director General of Immigration, Malaysia for the Social Visit Pass to him/her as a husband or wife of a Malaysian and for the purpose of endorsing permission for him/her to be engaged in paid employment or business or professional occupation.

Employment Approval Procedure

  1. Application can be made at Visa, Pass and Permit Division, Immigration Department of Malaysia (Headquarters) or at any State Immigration Office.
  2. Application can be submitted together with the application for a Social Visit Pass or after the Social Visit Pass has been issued.

Working permit for Spouse of Malaysian Citizen

  1. Foreign husband/wife is permitted to work in Malaysia without having to change their Social Visit Pass to Employment Pass with condition of acquiring working approval from the Immigration Department.
  2. The approval is in the form of endorsement and be given on the passport/travel document.
  3. The endorsement is given without fee (free).
  4. The endorsement entitled the holder to work in any legal profession.
  5. The application for the endorsement can be made at the Visa, Pass and Permit Division Immigration Head Quarters or at the nearest states Immigration offices.
  6. The permit can be applied at any time after or during the submission of the Social visit pass.
  7. Application letter together with a copy of letter of appointment/company registration evidence, marriage certificate and valid long term social visit pass are required for the approval consideration.
